Bible Thoughts by Randal Amos – itinerant Bible Teacher and Author

A casual observation reveals this world is broken.  From wars, death, disease, deceit, divorce, depression, oppression, greed to murder (of even babies), something is drastically wrong.

The Lord reveals the problem with a 3-fold diagnosis. For example, if you wanted a glass of milk but saw the carton was leaking – and then noticed the carton had been setting in the warm sun – and then looked inside and saw the milk was sour, you would refuse that milk for 3 reasons.
1 – because of its ongoing action (leaking),
2 – because of the environment in which it was setting, and
3 – because it’s spoiled internally.

Following is the Lord’s gospel diagnosis of the human race, and the gospel solution.

1 – SINNERS BY PRACTICEWhat we do is contrary to God

Mankind practices sin while knowing the truth – and rejecting it.  In rejection of God as revealed in His creation (and in His law) man has digressed into darkness.  In this chosen darkness they have dishonored their bodies sexually with debased affections, as their mind becomes reprobate (unable to judge correctly).  Darkness is the symptom but not the cause.  Thus, their practices are filled with sinfulness.  They are guilty of sinning while knowing the truth, Romans 1:18, 3:19.  They are not innocent for they are not ignorant.

Therefore because of such practices they have the problem of being consigned to the judgment of God.  “They which commit such things are worthy of death,” Romans 1:32.

Man’s solution is religion that promises if you follow their rules you will be absolved.  Whatever the rules and names, the formula of religion is always the same – you must do right to get right.  Also offered is non-religion.  By believing evolution one can assume a designer doesn’t exist so there is no reason to feel guilt or fear a judgment.

Gospel solutionThe death of Jesus Christ that forgives sin – by grace not works, Romans 4

A Savior: there is a justice in forgiveness of sins.  It’s in the love gift of God’s sinless Son, Jesus the Christ, who died (judged) for our sins.“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  Those who trust Him are saved from God’s judgment by the payment of Christ’s blood sacrifice, Romans 5:8-9.  Forgiveness is not based on the sinner’s works, but on the cross work of Christ – grace, Romans 4:4-8.

2 – SINNERS BY BIRTHWhat we are in is cursed – wrong citizenship (birthright)

In Adam (the human race) our legal identity is wrong and condemned in God’s court.  The head of a nation might raise taxes or declare war and all its citizens are affected by that one action for they are a legal part of the whole.  Likewise, birth into Adam’s (human) race connects us to his earthiness and curse, Genesis 3:17-19.“By one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned,” Romans 5:12.  “Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation.”  “By one man’s disobedience many were made sinners,” Romans 5:18-19.

Man’s solution is self-esteem that encourages the acceptance of self to feel valued.  Also there is the quest in pursuing political freedoms that legalize sin.  This makes one feel free and of worth just as they are, without the need to change anything.

(In creation’s chain, mankind is of more value than a sparrow or any other creation (Luke 12:7)– for man alone is made in the image of God with His breath of life.  So there is sanctity (worth) to human life.  But when it’s man verses a holy God then man, because of sin, is not worthy. As Jacob said, “I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies,” Genesis 32:10).

Gospel solutionBaptism with the Spirit into a new race by Christ’s resurrection, Romans 6

Born again: “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God,” John 3:5.  The gospel adopts the repentant sinner into a new family identity with a new Father to love.  “Ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.  The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God,” Romans 8:15-16.

“The last Adam” (resurrected Lord Jesus) is heavenly not earthly – spiritual not soulish, 1Corinthians 15:45-47.  The living Jesus is the Head of a heavenly race.  By baptism with His Spirit from heaven, one is placed into Christ’s body.  This gives the person a new status of citizenship with full legal acceptance, Ephesisans 1:5-7, 1Corinthians 12:13, Romans 5:14-6:14.

What the Son is to God,  counts also for the sons of God. What Adam did included his race so what Christ Jesus did include all in Him.“So by the righteousness of one [Jesus Christ our Lord] the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life…so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous,” Romans 5:18-19.  Yes, “in Adam all die…in Christ shall all be made alive,” 1Corinthians 15:22.  “For our conversation [citizenship] is in heaven,” Philippians 3:20.

3 – SINNERS BY NATUREWhat we are is corrupt

Our bodies have a sinful “DNA” embedded into its heart and mind.  It naturally desires to satisfy self apart from God’s will and doesn’t seek His glory.  As Paul discovered: “sin that dwelleth in me.”  And, in me (that is in my flesh) dewellth no good thing,” Romans 7:17-24.  The dead natural fleshly mind is not subject to God’s law and indeed can’t be, Romans 8:7.

Man’s solution is philosophy with psychosomatic therapies that deal with sin as disease and disorders –then offers professional counseling or drugs to modify the behaviorThe problem is that counseling and drugs bypass the heart which is the source, Mark 7:18-20.  Jesus said: “Within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man,” Mark 7:21-23.

Gospel solutionThe indwelling Spirit of Christ – and the Lord’s coming again, Romans 8

New heart: The present solution is the Holy Spirit coming into one’s heart, Galatians 4:6.  God promised: “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you,” Ezekiel 36:26.  By Christ’s Spirit one has power to deaden the deeds of the fleshly nature and have love, joy and peace.  “Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh,” Galatians 5:16-23.

New body: the future solution is the Lord Jesus Christ’s coming to transform our body of sin to be like His glorious body, Philippians 3:21.  “He shall appear, we shall be like Him,” 1John 3:2.

THE HOPE OF GLORY – A Preview of Things to Come

The Hope of Glory
A Preview of Things to Come

Warren Henderson, the author of “THE HOPE OF GLORY” was an aerospace engineer who has been serving the Lord in “full time” ministry for many years now. He is an itinerant Bible teacher and has written over 30 books. He is currently writing a “Devotional Study” series on the books of the Old Testament. Study Books on 31 books of the Bible have already been published. Warren’s goal is to complete the series this year.

The description on the back of “THE HOPE OF GLORY” gives a detailed look into the questions that will be answered.

“The whole Bible is an expression of divine truth. Our understanding of that truth is not gained by the private interpretation of any one particular Scripture (2 Peter 1:20), but rather through the guidance of the Holy Spirit in comparing Scripture with Scripture (1 Corinthians 2:13). By reviewing the whole of Scripture, we are able to answer with a high degree of confidence such questions as:

Does God have a future plan to bless the Jewish nation of Israel?

How does His agenda for the Jewish people differ from His future plans for the Church?

Is the Church to be looking for the coming of the Antichrist or Christ Himself?

Has Christ already come for the Church?

Is it true that Christ will not return until the Church prepares His kingdom?

A literal interpretation of Scripture naturally leads to a literal fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Accordingly, many yet unfulfilled Bible prophecies simply call our attention to a future day in which God will honor His Word.” –Warren Henderson-

I think we can say that we all would like to know what the future or better yet what God has planned for us! Studying the word of God can be a challenge sometimes. It is always a blessing to find study guides written by brothers and/or sisters in Christ who are committed to the Truth!

The writing is not only backed up by Scripture but also refers to and quotes facts and statistics from today – the world we live in!

Reading “THE HOPE OF GLORY” opened up a look inside the so far fulfilled prophecies and the events still to come! Warren does not hesitate to present different views that are out there. Like mentioned before he does, though, back up his views with Scripture itself.

In Ezekiel 17:21 we learn that God “will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land” Warren says that “the Lord has promised to bring the Jews back to their homeland from all nations.”

Here is a copy of a chart showing the reality of migration of Jews back to their homeland. At the same time it brings the RAPTURE into close proximity.

“Percent of Jews Worldwide
Year    /    Back in Israel
1882          0%
1900          1%
1925          1%
1939          3%
1948          6%
1955          13%
1970          20%
1980          25%
1990          30%
2000          37%

2010          42%
  2012          43%”

I highly recommend this book if you are interested in the “Things to Come”, Christ’s Second Advent, the Rapture, understanding of the prophesies of the Old Testament, and want to know what Heaven will be like!

My Opa (Grandpa) always said:  “You learn something new every day!”

He was so right!

Even though we have self-published before we learned something new during our recent self-publishing adventure.  Authors who publish a book with a different or special layout other than a normal book should keep an eye on this!

The Study Guide has a special layout as it has two columns of text per page.  When you open the Study Guide you see four columns side by side over two pages.  (Example below)

The way to study is to:

FIRST – read e.g. verse 1 of the true Scripture of Revelation in the very left column.

SECOND – you move over to the next column and read the commentary to verse 1.

Third – another column over you can find the text of the reference verse(s) -spelled out- that you found in the commentary referring to verse 1 (this way you don’t have to search back and forth for them in your Bible).

Fourth – coming to the very right column you find the commentary on the reference verse(s).

We chose this format so that without turning any pages the student can use time more effectively.  This also promotes and enhances ease of understanding.

We emailed the manuscript to the designer who was going to prepare it for printing.  He changed the font and spaced the lines appropriately to make reading more pleasant to the eyes of the reader.  All of this was greatly appreciated.

However, and here is something you might want to keep an eye on if you have a special layout and self-publish.

The “page layout” we chose stayed the same which proved to be a serious mistake!  We had set our pages at minimum margins in order to fit each chapter on one page and to keep everything side by side in context.  (This is where the “NO” experience with special layout comes into play)!  When you are self-publishing you have to educate yourself and be in discussion with the publisher/designer to get recommendations for change if necessary.

All the proofs we received via email looked great on the computer screen.  When we finally received a printed copy we noticed that the inside of the Study Guide looked unprofessional with the text almost touching the binding due to the narrow margins!

So we went back to the drawing board  We made the margins wider, cut the texts in the appropriate places to keep the context, and added a number of pages to the manuscript.

Originally we had 84 pages. Now we have close to 150 pages which is actually a good thing. With 84 pages the book was very thin and almost disappeared out of view on the bookshelf. Now with 150pages it should show up between the other books!

All in all a good and, in the end, valuable experience!

What was Mike’s motivation to put this Study Guide together?

The inspiration for this book came from three important sources.

First, the Book, The Revelation of Jesus Christ, tells us in chapter 1, verse 3: “Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.

This was and still is the first motivation—for others to be blessed by learning both of God’s truths and of His warnings. His warning, “for the time is near,” is the second impetus.

With the violence and divisions in today’s society this study guide is remarkably relevant. People are asking, “What’s happening?”

The subjects of Global Warming, Climate Change, increased numbers of earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, tsunamis, mass school shootings, are called the birth pains of the great tribulation. The leanings toward “one world government” which will result in people following the antichrist instead of the Lord Jesus Christ are also prophesied. With all the madness going on in this world around us today, the time for Christ’s return is surely imminent.

The third incentive (the one that reminded me, “the best way to get something done is to begin,”) came from our local assembly’s participants in a weekly Bible study who requested a meaningful, thorough, quality study in the Book of Revelation.

Due to the state of affairs surrounding every human being in this otherwise unpredictable world, this explanation of the prophecy in Revelation should arouse much interest. With clarity readers and hearers will see the tremendous eternal value of believing in Jesus Christ truly being their Savior (so that they will not reject Him). This belief is what saves them from being left behind to suffer the great seven-year tribulation and possibly worse…if even imaginable—eternal consciousness in the lake of fire.

Lessons learned during the publishing process!

Considering all the horrible, revolting things we hear in the news of these days, Digging Deep into the Revelation of Jesus Christ is not only fitting, but also incredibly necessary for eternal souls.

The Book of Revelation is difficult to grasp.  Nevertheless, Revelation 1:3 and 22:7 tell us that we will be blessed if we do.  Let’s have another look at the Scriptures:

Revelation 1:3 NKJV
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.
Revelation 22:7 NKJV
“Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

This guide, first of all, contains the complete New King James Version Bible Scriptures of The Revelation of Jesus Christ and the reference Scriptures.  Secondly, an enormous benefit of the layout (which we discussed earlier) is that without turning any pages, the reader has four columns side by side to use time more effectively and to enhance ease of understanding.

Studying the Book of Revelation, we learn of both: God’s truths and His warnings – for the time is near-.  With all the madness going on in this world around us today, the time for Christ’s return is surely imminent.

This study guide points out that the Lord Jesus Christ is Almighty Jehovah God and that He is the King of kings and Lord of lords.
“Of the 404 verses in Revelation, 265 contain verses alluding to 550 Old Testament references”.  The Book of Revelation points out how those who believe in God will literally be taken to heaven, and those who do not believe will undergo the tremendous tribulation events which are described in breathtaking detail. The ones who accept the Lord Jesus as their Savior during the tribulation will probably be killed for doing so, and the ones who continue to reject Him will suffer eternally in the lake of fire.

The overall theme of this study guide is for the readers and hearers to realize the eternal importance of believing the truth and to not reject Jesus Christ who, with His Father and Spirit, is the only God who saves us humans from His wrath.  His anger with us is caused by our offending Him.

All God asks, is that we know Him…that we believe in Him!

May God be honored and glorified!
