Photocopying? Printing? Binding it into a book? What would it be?

The manuscript was finished, and now what to do with it?

We started calculating different options like:

Printing the Study Guide here at home on our printer, or
Photocopying it at the local paper place, or
Printing it at the nearest printer!

Well, the manuscript had 72 pages and we needed at least 8 copies for our study group, so printing it here at home would have been way to costly. The same applied to photocopying.

With that in mind we arrived at our last option: PRINTING!

We talked to our local printer and it seemed reasonable to go with that option. However, after talking with friends  and some additional research we came across WestBow Press!

WestBow Press is a division of Thomas Nelson & Zondervan, and they offer supported self-publishing packages and services for Christian authors. We looked at their packages, and talked to them to find out if we would be a good match.

We learned from their website
that other authors had managed to land a book deal with either Thomas Nelson or Zondervan after self-publishing their book with WestBow Press.

Our sincere Thank You’s to the representatives at WestBow Press who have made this adventure a tremendously positive experience. Their attention to detail is extraordinary, they are professional in handling every matter, and are always kind, patient, and friendly. We are very thankful for their expertise in the field of publishing as well as marketing. See, they don’t just walk you through the publishing process but also offer assistance with the marketing of your final product.

Considering all this, we are hoping that, Lord willing, Thomas Nelson or Zondervan would like our finished product and offer to pick it up, too. That would be a dream come true!

The Best Gift of All

We are so blessed to have the best gift of all
We are so blessed to have heard… His gentle call.

What more could I ask for as a gift
After the many years of the way I lived?

Now, with a new heart, I live a new way
My heart will never ever see decay.

“What’s an easy to follow LAYOUT for a Study Guide?”

Before I get into the “LAYOUT of our Study Guide” I would like to share some exciting news we received from our publisher regarding our book:

On January 21, 2019 we received this message:

“Congratulations! The production stage for your book is complete, and we are sending your files to the printer for set-up and distribution.”

Then today January 23rd we received the confirmation that it is ready and can be ordered online at,

WestBow Press:

and Barnes & Noble, (other online bookstores will be following soon)

If you prefer you may also order the Study Guide through your local bookstore or via email at

WOW! We are so excited to be able to make this resource available for an in depth Bible Study of the Book of Revelation, either in a Bible Study Group or for personal study!

Now, let me get back to the LAYOUT we chose for the Study Guide and why.

I own a Parallel Bible with four different versions (KJV, NKJV, NIV, NLT). Having all these different translations side by side helps me greatly in my studies. And sometimes Mike picks it up, too.

While putting together the Study Guide and brainstorming the best layout for it, we went back to the Parallel Bible idea several times. And in the end decided that it would be of advantage to have the Scriptures and the relevant Commentaries, as well as Reference Scriptures and their relevant Commentaries side by side. With this layout the student can follow each verse or sometimes several verses combined as well as the commentary and reference verses from the left column to the very right column across the open book without turning any pages.

Picture of the 4 columns - what the Study Guide looks like on the inside.

Another advantage is that the student doesn’t have to search the Bible back and forth for the reference verses, and in the end have lost their thought by the time they get there.

This way TIME can be used more effectively and the layout enhances the ease of understanding.

Ultimately the purpose of this study is to promote learning, discussion, and blessing.

Once finished, we had 72 pages of Study Guide and we would need at least 8 copies for our small study group! Plus there were a number of other friends and family who had expressed interest in a copy of the Study Guide.

We had arrived at the point where we had to deal with the question: “How do we produce all these copies in the most efficient and reasonable way?”

Confusing the futon with the fondue
was so very easy for me to do.
Eating the futon,
or was that the tonfon;
or was it sleeping in the fondue;
or was that the dufu?
What does a dufu do?
Is there a new dance called the Fudu?
Any fuddy duddy
could chew on nutty putty,
but it takes a special one
to find the street it’s on
and eat a full pot of futon.
Any way, when we finished the walk
or was that a run,
it really was a ton of fun
eating that… that Provence fondue,
and being there… with you two.

Our Adventure: Writing and publishing a Study Guide on the Book of Revelation!

The first question that many might ask after reading the title of this blog may be:

“What motivated Mike to write a Study Guide on the Book of Revelation?”

Over the past few years we have encountered so many people, including members of our Bible study group, wondering about the future of this world. People are always seeking for answers to their questions like:
  “Where is the world headed?
Are we seeing the signs of the Last Days?”

Some people would answer:
“We are living in interesting times!
We are living in challenging times!   or
We are living in the End-Times!”

Mike’s answer: “All the answers to our questions can be found in the Bible! The Revelation of Jesus Christ is difficult to grasp. Nevertheless, Revelation 1:3 and 22:7 tell us we will be blessed if we do.” And he would say: “Don’t take my word for it!”

Revelation 1:3 NKJV
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.
Revelation 22:7 NKJV
“Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

With this in mind Mike set out to put together a Bible Study on the Book of Revelation for our small study group. It turned into a bigger project than expected. Mike spent months researching and compiling information from different sources like dictionaries, commentaries, and other solid brothers in Christ. It was a rewarding effort!

Sometimes… life seems to call us…
to a place… where we can slow down

To the peace… and the quiet…
to a place… where we can hear no sound

To be with someone…
whom we love… very… very much

To feel the happiness…
of each other… and to share nature’s touch.

Now how do we explain to a Canadian Immigration Officer that we met in Seventh Heaven?

Once we decided to live here in Canada, Mike needed to apply for permanent residency.

One of the questions on the application forms was to confirm where
we met. Usually that is easy to answer. Like … we met at this and this restaurant or concert or at friends…

Well, Mike and I met in Seventh Heaven which we filled into the form!
Now, … would that satisfy the immigration officer? Probably NOT!

By now, you are maybe also wondering: “Where is Seventh Heaven?”

Yes, in an airplane, on a flight from Amsterdam to Seattle!
I sat in seat 14A (window of course) and Mike in seat 14B

We added that explanation and copies of our boarding cards to the form.
It must have amused the officer
as Mike got approved for
permanent residency. YES!

Every time my thoughts are free…
I find you … waiting there
Every time I think of you…
You are to me … a deep breath of fresh air

Never been… so deeply lost…
                    in such an awesome daze
Yet,… so deeply aware…
                   recalling… every single phase

Dreams… in black and white…
seeing all my friends.. every one
In my best dreams… in color…
so deep… so vivid… there is only one
When I see you… with joy overflowing…
                   my smile will just beam
Afterwards… the time away from each other…
                   will be just a dream
We will not awaken… until…
                   once again… we are together
I want you… to be my best friend…

Our Adventure:
Writing and publishing a Study Guide on the Book of Revelation!

How scary is that thought? At first!

After much reading and educating myself, my husband and I decided to take the risk!

My husband, Mike, is the writer and author. He says that he was high tech once but now he is low tech!

That’s why I, Elfriede, handle everything else. So, you will mostly hear from me on this blog.

A little about who we are:

Mike is a US citizen and Canadian permanent resident.  He spent 26 years in the US Air Force. He was nine years with the Wings of Blue parachute team at the U.S. Air Force Academy, an instructor and the Superintendent of Parachuting Operations at the Academy. Mike accumulated 2,000 parachute jumps and 15 hours of freefall. He retired with the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant.

I, Elfriede am a Canadian citizen, born and raised in Germany. I worked in foreign trade, trade shows and traveled for different companies worldwide. Now I am a housewife which is the best job ever!

I love to cook and bake from scratch (and experiment).  A good thing is that Mike loves to eat!  This makes for a perfect match!

We live in the Canadian Rocky Mountains surrounded by 6 National Parks. We both like to exercise, cross country ski, hike, garden, and walk our dog Kansas.

We both believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is indeed the Son of God and have a passion for studying God’s Word!
